002: Where Do We Belong?

I.

Whom do we call when things are not easy?

Whom do we call when life gets tricky?

In all forms of you,

In all the sequence of time,

Where do we belong?

I’ve painted night skies and traced constellations,

I’ve lurked in the shadows,

I’ve sat by a perfect spill of “Hakuna Matata” sunsets,

I’ve tasted nicotine and stepped on broken vodka bottles,

I’ve walked miles and miles of greens and browns.

II.

But still,

Where do I belong?

Questions that flutter —

Why is there a need for separation?

A need for guns than guitars?

A need for bullets than quartets?

We are all more than just a roundtable negotiation.

Is it because of where we came from?

Is it our passport that causes distortion?

Is it the shades of our skin?

Is it our accent that determines our descent?

But why do we keep putting people into boxes and writing labels into them?

Why?

Again, these are questions —

Further investigation to instigate conversation.

Aren’t we all just one?

One and the same.

III.

Finding a source of truth —

Truth, one simple word,

A single word that can be bent,

Swirled, looped around like a candy cane,

Slide it up and down,

Passes through gateways, fortress, and vents —

Proved hard to obtain,

For one thing I’ve learned —

fanning the flames can burn all claims.
